Yearly estimations data of aggregates consumption, shows a new historic milestone.

· Consumption of aggregates for construction in 2006 : 485 millions of tonnes (+5,5%) with a continuous growing rhythm respect of the last period. The aggregates consumption per capita for construction, with 11,0 tonnes by person by year, beats the European media, situated about 7 tonnes by person and year.
· The volume of business of aggregates sector for construction, including transport, has moved upward to 3.975 millions of Euros (+6,1%€ kg)
· The aggregates consumption for industrial applications such as concrete, glasses, charges, filters, chemical, iron and steel industry, metallurgy ; etc. is estimated in 75 millions of tonnes.
· Therefore, the aggregates consumption in the year 2006, is of 560 millions of tonnes (+5,7%)

In the scope of countries inside the European Aggregates Association –UEPG, Spanish is in second place, behind Germany and before France, according to the UEPG data of 2005.

Other data of aggregates sector

· The aggregates sector keeps on with the tendency of the last years, consolidated as the most important Spanish mining sector, concerning volume of production, number of exploitations and total generated employee.
· There are about 1.600 aggregates companies all around the national geography , with about 2.450 registered aggregated exploitations, from which about 1.140 are quarries (46,5%) and about 1.310 are gravel sites (53,5%). From this exploitations, we estimate that about 80% - 1950- are in activity.
· This number represents about 57,7% of the total of Spanish mining exploitations.
· The total employment generated by the sector are nearing 86.000 workers, distributed like this :

· Direct job : the aggregates sector is the first mining sector concerning generated employment, nearing the 13.700 workers.
· Indirect job : 32.300 workers directly related to aggregates production y 40.000 workers in complementary activity labours, including the aggregates transport.
